GENERAL INFORMATION
If you have not heard of SEMPA before, here is some info: SEMPA is an event where students can pick their own music and form their own ensembles to perform music for judges. The event is very non-threatening and has a relaxed atmosphere to help the students have a fun and enjoyable experience. My students have loved it in the past and I get more to sign up every year. If you hesitate, think of the opportunity your students are getting by participating (i.e picking music on their own, forming a group to perform with, practicing on their own, practicing with others, practicing without you having to be told to, this is a great addition to scholarship/college application honors and awards, personal critique from a high quality educator). There are tons of solo and small ensemble books to choose from and students have a great way of finding music they would like to play. There is no limit to the number of students who can participate nor how many performances they can perform (we have had schools with over 60 performances). There is no limit as to what they can play unless you as the teacher set those limitations. We have had students play everything from "Scooby-Doo" to the Paul Creston Sonata for Alto Saxophone. I hope to see you and lots of your students at SEMPA this year! |
